Define what the grade actually contains

For powders, confirm plant part, extraction solvent, extract ratio, marker assay and carrier. For water, glycerin or glycol extracts, confirm the extract solids, solvent composition, preservative system and microbiological limits.

Examples include total triterpenes or asiaticoside for centella, acemannan and aloin limits for aloe, glycyrrhizic acid or glabridin for licorice, and apigenin for chamomile.

Formulation fit determines practical value

Check water or oil compatibility, recommended pH, addition temperature, color, odor and interaction with surfactants, electrolytes, polymers and preservatives. A high-assay powder may need solubilization, while a convenient liquid extract may deliver much less botanical solids.

Run compatibility and stability work in the actual base formula. Natural color and odor drift should be assessed against the desired sensory profile and packaging.

Claims require evidence and market review

Botanical identity does not by itself support a cosmetic or therapeutic claim. Define the intended cosmetic function, use level and destination market, then review ingredient status, impurities, safety information and claim substantiation.
