Product overview
Potassium Formate is supplied as dry salt or high-strength brine for solids-free drilling, drill-in, completion and workover fluids. A 75% brine provides density around 1.57 g/cm³ while supporting shale inhibition and polymer thermal stability with lower solids loading than conventional weighted muds.

- CAS No.:
- 590-29-4
- Form:
- White crystalline solid / Clear colorless brine
- Content / Grade:
- Oilfield grade; ≥97% dry salt or 74-75% w/w brine; 75% brine density approximately 1.57 g/cm³ at 20°C
- Applications:
- Solids-free drilling and completion brines, Reservoir drill-in and workover fluids, Shale inhibition and wellbore-stability systems, Density control up to approximately 1.57 g/cm³ with single-salt brine
- Hazard / Transport:
- Typical potassium-formate grades have relatively low acute toxicity and are not commonly regulated as dangerous goods, but concentrated brine can irritate eyes and skin. Confirm pH, impurities, compatibility and the latest grade SDS before handling or offshore use.
- Storage:
- Store dry salt tightly sealed and protected from moisture. Keep brine in closed, compatible, corrosion-resistant containers; protect from contamination, dilution, freezing conditions and incompatible acids or oxidizers.
