The dosage form determines the starting specification

Parenteral, oral, nasal and ophthalmic projects do not begin with the same risk profile. A buyer should state the route of administration, target concentration, drug-substance characteristics, pH range, sterilization approach and intended market before comparing grades.

A general industrial or oral grade should not be assumed suitable for an injectable project. Compendial alignment, traceability, supplier change control and the supporting regulatory package can be as important as assay.

Substitution distribution and impurities matter

Average degree of substitution is only one part of grade identity. Buyers may also need the substitution fingerprint, residual beta-cyclodextrin, sulfobutylating-related impurities, sodium content, water, residual solvents, elemental impurities, microbial limits, bioburden and bacterial endotoxin. The analytical methods and acceptance criteria should be agreed before qualification.

Build a useful qualification request

Share the dosage form, intended use level, guest molecule, target solubility, development stage and required pharmacopeia. Request a representative sample, specification, SDS, COA, stability or retest information, manufacturing-site details and change-notification policy. Solubilization and stability must still be confirmed in the buyer's own formulation.
