Identity includes the isomer and odor profile

Citral is commonly evaluated as the combined geranial and neral content. Linalool, limonene, geraniol and citronellol may be offered from natural or synthetic routes with different isomer profiles and trace components.

Specify assay, refractive index, relative density, optical rotation where relevant, acid value, color and a retained odor standard. Natural-origin status needs traceable route documentation.

Oxidation changes both quality and safety

Oxygen, headspace, metals, heat and light can increase peroxides and off-notes. Oxidized terpene materials may also raise sensitization concerns. Agree limits and test methods for peroxide value or other oxidation indicators when the application and shelf life justify them.

Evaluate the ingredient after realistic storage and again in the finished flavor, fragrance, cosmetic or cleaning formulation.

Packaging and destination review are part of the specification

Use tightly sealed compatible containers with controlled headspace; protect from light and heat, and consider inert gas for oxidation-sensitive grades. Define drum size, liner, seal, shelf life and re-test conditions.

Confirm flavor authorization, cosmetic allergen labeling, workplace classification and transport status for the exact substance, concentration and destination market. The current grade-specific SDS remains decisive for shipment.
